Dr. Dave Pearson, School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University will present “Bioindicators: A Fast Window into Conservation Priorities”. The rapid decline of global biodiversity has forced conservation biology to increasingly function as a science of triage and short-term stopgaps. One of the tools to meet this critical demand is that of bioindicators. They are organisms or biological systems that are sensitive to environmental changes, providing information about the health and quality of an ecosystem. They are used to monitor pollution, assess biodiversity, and track the progress of conservation efforts. When are they reliable and when are they misleading?
From September through April, the Monthly Speaker Series hosts live presentations by experts at the Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, which are also presented live on Zoom. Come in person for socializing and refreshments before an informative talk. There is no need to register for the in-person event or the Zoom – just show up.
