Desert Rivers Audubon is to protect birds from man-made threats.

  • Fact: Our windows are a fatal threat to birds.
  • Fact: Up to 1 BILLION birds perish YEARLY after crashing into windows.
  • Fact: 40% of deaths are due to brightly lit commercial buildings.

BUT

  • 60% perish after hitting homes and low-rise buildings during the DAY!

Protecting Birds

Desert Rivers is teaching homeowners easy, effective and inexpensive ways to divert birds from windows.

And, Desert Rivers was the first chapter in the valley to join Global Bird Rescue, an internation data-gathering project to document bird mortality around high rise buildings.

This project led to a partnership with the managers of the tall corporate buildings around Tempe Town Lake that increasingly are dimming their nighttime lighting when migrating birds are moving through the Valley.

Desert Rivers Audubon supports the National Audubon Society’s commitment to conservation.

Audubon Flight Plan

Our chapter is developing new programs to help Audubon achieve the hemispheric conservation goals set out in its Flight Plan.

Motus

We are partnering with the Town of Gilbert to erect a receiving tower linked to the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, an international research initiative using telemetry to facilitate research and education on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals.
