Join us on February 11 to hear Chrissy Kondrat from the Arizona Department of Game and Fish explain how the Motus Tracking System works and why it is so important. Motus is an international research tool that gathers data on the movements of individual birds and other animals as they migrate. Birds are fitted with a miniature transmitter that pings at regular intervals. Motus receiving stations pick up the pings and record information about specific animals to a database that is open to researchers.

Desert Rivers Audubon is working with the Town of Gilbert to establish a Motus station in the Riparian Preserve. We will be recording the movements of monarch butterflies as well as birds!
