An American White Pelican, #57601, that was first tagged at Gunnison Island in Utah, landed at the Gibert Riparian Preserve and was detected by our Motus station. This bird was also detected at seven different Motus stations on its journey. What makes these detections so important is that data regarding each individual bird are combined with the data from other stations to provide information on the bird’s travels for research and conservation purposes. Desert Rivers is now working with the Town of Gilbert to provide educational signage to explain to the public about what the Motus station is and why it is important. Our Motus station is a collaborative project between Desert Rivers Audubon and the Town of Gilbert and was funded by member donations and a grant from the National Audubon Society.
