Topic: Arizona Swallows – Catch Them If You Can
Speaker: Margaret Dyekman
Description: A swallow was not Margaret’s spark bird, but she does have a special name for one of the species—and you’ll have to come to the presentation to find out what it is! She’ll share photos and information about the eight species in the swallow family, Hirundinidae, that are regularly found in Arizona, along with why she chose swallows as her topic.
BIO: Margaret is President of Desert Rivers Audubon Society and has been a birder since her Girl Scout days. She’s closing in on her goal of seeing 1,000 bird species worldwide. A former management consultant, she now enjoys photography and is the author of Backyard Birding in Northern Arizona. She’s even found a few lifers while trying to make a birdie on the golf course!
We meet at the entrance to the preserve near the parking lot at 7:30 am, then the leader guides the group around the ponds. About an hour and a half later we travel to Brick Road Coffee, located at 1337 S. Gilbert Rd. in Mesa for coffee, conversation, and a short presentation.
If you cannot make the walk, you are always welcome to join us for coffee/tea and the presentation about two hours after the walk start time.
